Have you asked yourself “am I Gods Chosen?” or “who are God's chosen?” Did you know the word chosen shows up at least 123 times in the Bible? Here is one verse in John 15:16 that says I have chosen you, and another verse in Matthew 22:14 says many are called but few are chosen. But the question remains - who are the chosen?

For starters, we will be visiting scriptures from the Old and New Testaments to help bring clarity to this topic by answering two specific questions:

Who are the chosen?

Why were they chosen?

Let’s look at what Deuteronomy 7:6 says:

Deuteronomy 7:6 KJV - For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God: the Lord hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.

In the following verses, the LORD gives detailed reasons on why He chose who He chose. He said He didn’t choose you because you were more in number but because you were the fewest. A key point in this verse is He said He redeemed them from Pharaoh, King of Egypt. Now, if you know the story of Moses, you might know who this is talking about, but if your memory is fuzzy, I recommend reading the Book of Exodus. In Exodus chapter 14, we can see some key things pertaining to the Pharaoh and who He redeemed which will tell us who it is talking about in Deuteronomy 7:6-8.

Exodus 14:26 KJV - And the LORD said unto Moses, stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptian, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen.

In this passage, we see the people who were redeemed from Pharaoh, King of Egypt, are the Israelites, who are the chosen that was spoken of in the verse of Deuteronomy we started with.

Here are a couple of other scriptures that reference the chosen directly:

Deuteronomy 14:2

Psalm 105:6

Psalm 135:4

Isaiah 44:1

Romans 9:4-8

In conclusion, the scriptures we looked at give a clear backdrop of God intervening to help his people. These verses also demonstrate who they are and why God chose the Israelites to be his chosen.
